Current Electoral Process
The electoral process we use today is based on the political system of the United Kingdom's. This systems most common name is "First Past the Post". The way that this system works is there is a certain number of "Ridings" (338 in Canada) and 1 person a MP (Member of Parliament) is elected by a popular vote in each riding. The Prime Minister is decide by what party has won the most ridings or seats in Parliament. Although it is interesting to see which party got the most votes it usually has no effect on who becomes Prime Minister. To win a Majority government (You don't need other parties input on a lot of matters) you need 170 seats. If you win by less than that there is a Minority government (You might need input from other parties).
We Want to Keep The Same Electoral System
Our opinion about our type of electoral system is we like the current one in place. The first reason we like this system is we have not had any problems with it. the next reason we like this system is it is quite simple to understand. The last main reason we support the "First past the Post" is it allows equal representation and allows each riding to have someone that can speak for them in parliament. One thing that is not so great about this system is the ridings are not based on people so one riding could have 50,000 people and one could have 10,000 people so some people might feel that there vote counts for less than someone in a riding with less people.
